What If You're NOT Good at the Thing You're Trying to Learn?
Today I'd like to address something I think we can all relate to. On one of the recent coaching calls for my certification program, we discussed how challenging it can be to learn a new skill. In this context, we were talking about learning lighting techniques in photography, but the overall takeaway can be applied to learning any skill.
It can be hard to be a beginner because often our skills don't match our vision for whatever it is we're learning or working on. We may feel frustrated that we're not nailing it right off the bat, even though it's nearly impossible to quickly go from beginner to expert.
But we don't give babies a hard time for taking a while to learn how to walk, do we? No. Instead, we support them and offer encouragement, and this is how we should treat ourselves when learning a new skill as well.
The key is to get comfortable with not being good at the start. Accepting our imperfections and understanding that it is a process will facilitate learning.
My tips: be patient, show up every day, and push through the frustration. Over time you'll see massive improvement not only in your mentality but also in your skills!
